I Am Pro-Environment BUT… (Part 2)

Almost five months after writing the first part of this entry, I finally found an establishment that gave this paper packaging/bag issue a great thought. Kudos True Value! Look at….

designed for carrying stuff by hand (funny I need to say this)

reinforced handles so they won't easily tear

enough room for big items, with reinforced bottom at that to carry weight

Right–start RIGHT, start here TRUE VALUE!!! The moment the salesperson handed this bag to me, I wanted to sing this:

However, some (or many? most?) stores still use paper bags for compliance sake, who cares about the convenience of the buying customers?!

Nice marketing lines…goodbye functionality!

Good for clips, few pieces of paper and greeting cards...

but still it gets torn easily because it is not ergonomically designed--in the end we create more waste! Argh!

and this is what they do with bulky items. DUH.

and this is what they do with bulky items because they do not fit their “new” packaging.

Sumusunod lang sa batas. Oo. Sumusunod lang kaya hindi nag-iisip? Kung naisip ng True Value ang design nila, bakit hindi yun kayang isipin ng iba?

If stores keep doing things for compliance’s sake, then we’ll just end up destroying more trees, which defeats the purpose of the law. It is the spirit of the law, not the letter, that we should uphold.

  1. omigosh, NBS has gone paper too? Just goes to show how long it has been since I bought anything from the store. With my son no longer in school, I need NBS less. So true about compliance – no further thought put into anything but. Easiest way out — that’s so us as a people?!

    • I don’t think it is a cultural thing. In management control, one should presume that people are rational, economic beings and that they will always find a way to circumvent the laws and policies. Human nature maybe, hehe.
